Who is Ocean Imaging?
Marine scientists Stefan Andrews and Kingsley Griffin formed Ocean Imaging in 2015 with the vision of becoming Australia’s first media company specialising in marine science communication and education.
What clients has Ocean Imaging worked for?
Over the years our underwater filming services have been trusted with clients such as the BBC, Discovery Channel, National Geographic, Netflix and Disney+, Plimsoll Productions, The Ocean Agency, The Wilderness Society, Coastcare Victoria, University of Western Australia, UNSW and many more.
Why choose Ocean Imaging?
As marine scientists we understand the complexities and nuances of ocean related stories. We have thousands of hours of experience in a wide range of conditions and environments and have the skills and knowledge required to capture the moments that define your story.
Unlike most film crews, we are able to capture broadcast quality vision and audio including underwater, aerial and interviews with just a single crew member. We will then move straight into post-production and pride ourselves on a rapid turnaround from shoot to final product.
How does a project run when working with Ocean Imaging?
We begin by having a detailed conversation with you about your project, the story as you see it, and your vision for engaging your audience. We will then provide a quote and production time frame based on our availability.
After the initial filming is complete we will use a sample for review and discuss our shared vision for the edit, then get cracking on the post-production. The first draft is typically ready for review within 2-3 days. From there we will make the final touches on the video together. We will always make sure you are 100% satisfied with the final deliverables.
What other services does Ocean Imaging provide?
Ocean Imaging is also the primary organisation involved in the establishment of the Great Southern Reef project, website and social media management. We write articles, produce optimised content for social media, supply stock footage, run training courses and workshops.
Stefan also offers educational curriculum development services. A sample of the educational resources funded by National Geographic and developed by Stefan can be found on the Great Southern Reef website
What equipment does Ocean Imaging use?
Stefan’s main filming camera for underwater photography is currently a Canon R5 in a Nauticam underwater housing. This camera shoots 8K RAW as well as 4K @120fps slow motion capabilities. For aerial shots we use a Phantom 4 Pro and for audio we use a Rode NTG5. The primary editing software we use is Davinci Resolve.
Does Ocean Imaging have insurance and qualifications?
Yes, Ocean Imaging has $10Mil public liability insurance. We are also a registered Drone Operator (ReOC) and Stefan is an experienced drone pilot with a CASA Remote Pilot Licence (RePL). Stefan is also a commercial ADAS diver and PADI SCUBA diving instructor.
Where is Ocean Imaging based and do you travel?
Stefan is based on the Yorke Peninsula in South Australia and Kingsley is in Perth. Stefan currently does the majority of the filming, editing and curriculum development work. We travel both within Australia and are also available for overseas jobs subject to availability.
